The EMA is happy to host an intimate round table about impact investment, micro-insurance and the future of financial services with Leapfrog Investments co-founder, Dr. Jim Roth and Leapfrog Partner and General Counsel, Tom Brunner. LeapFrog Investments is a $135 million profit-with-purpose global impact investment fund that was founded to support the development of the rapidly growing micro-insurance and micro-financial services sector.

Launched with President Bill Clinton in September 2008, LeapFrog is the preeminent player in its genre and invests in companies that target under-served, individuals who lack regular access to financial services.

In June 2012, the Financial Times and the IFC awarded LeapFrog, a special commendation for Sustainable Investor of the Year.

Jim co-founded LeapFrog in 2007. Jim leads LeapFrogÔÇÖs work in South Asia as well as the fundÔÇÖs Europe office. He is a leading expert in the global mass-market insurance sector, and a pioneer of commercial microinsurance. Formerly he was Vice President of The Microinsurance Centre, ILO Chief Technical Advisor on microinsurance in India, and consultant to multinational insurance companies such as AIG and Allianz and banks such KFW and ADB. Jim has sourced and negotiated deals with mass market insurance distribution networks; he has developed partnerships between commercial insurers and MFIs; and he has trained over 50 leaders of MFIs to sell microinsurance.

Tom oversees all LeapFrogÔÇÖs legal functions as well as playing a lead role on the South Asia team. He is widely recognized as one of ÔÇ£AmericaÔÇÖs Leading Business LawyersÔÇØ (Chambers USA; Best Lawyers in America; Lawdragon; WhoÔÇÖs Who) and one of ÔÇ£the WorldÔÇÖs Leading Insurance and Reinsurance LawyersÔÇØ (Legal Media Group; International WhoÔÇÖs Who of Business Lawyers). He also serves as Chair of the Insurance Practice at Wiley Rein LLC. Over 25 years, Tom has been counsel to numerous insurers and insurance industry organizations ÔÇô including on mergers and acquisitions, professional liability, and reinsurance ÔÇô and overseen due diligences and regulatory compliance in international insurance PE transactions. He was lead US counsel for Winterthur Insurance in its successful ÔÇ£baseball arbitrationÔÇØ concerning its sale of two insurers, an $800 million award. Tom has been founding counsel for several industry groups. He was also recently awarded the Wiley A. Branton Award for Civil Rights Advocacy in recognition of his commitment to the pro bono civil rights legal community. He holds a J.D. from Yale and an A.B. cum laude from Columbia University.
