The NYU Stern Rugby Football Club was founded in 1996 by some enthusiastic students from Block 7 who diligently obtained official club status from the school. Players practiced in the East River Park and even ran around Washington Square to get in shape and represent the school at annual MBA Rugby World Championships, held each Spring at Duke.
The Club's mission is to provide a strong social environment in a sporting context outside of Stern's primary activities. We play 4-5 matches and tournaments per semester, fielding a team made up of not only MBA students but other NYU students and alumni as well (the team is also known NYU Graduate Rugby).
Rugby is an exciting team sport that combines physical commitment, technical ability and strategic thinking. We invite the entire NYU Stern community, whatever their sporting background, to join our club and become part of a strong, supportive, and entertaining community.
To join our club, no rugby experience is necessary or expected. Our requirements are simple: we welcome students of any shape or size who are eager to learn and play the sport of rugby in a cohesive and socially-oriented team environment. There are optional training sessions and post-training socials; even students who don't not want to play can enjoy the team's laid back and inclusive atmosphere.
