Join us for a conversation with Nicole Gelinas, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, contributing editor at City Journal, and contributing opinion writer at The New York Times. Gelinas will give an overview of the first three and a half months of the mayoralty of Zohran K. Mamdani.

Drawing on her recent analysis, Gelinas will further argue that while proposals such as rent freezes and expanded public services are framed as targeting the wealthy, their real effects may fall more heavily on middle- and working-class New Yorkers.

This discussion will explore the distributional consequences of urban policy, the trade-offs inherent in affordability-focused reforms, and what New York’s trajectory signals for the future of large American cities.
