What's better than more hiking!

New York City is awesome, sure, but if you need some fresh air, take a break to come hike and enjoy the beautiful, fall scenery with Stern Adventures ! Bull Hill/Cold Spring is only an 90 minute train ride north from Grand Central.

We will all meet in front of the big clock at Grand Central at 8:30 am for an 8:55 am train and board the last car of the train. We will take the train to the Cold Spring stop, where we will walk briefly to trail head for Bull Hill (Short Loop).

The trail is about 4 miles long (with a mile there and back from the station), so we will hike for a total of 2-3 hours. The first mile of the the trail is the hardest, but the views are worth it on the top. We will then hike flat for some amazing views of Hudson River, before descending down for the last mile or so past ruins back to the parking lot. Very manageable as a beginner hike!

Transportation Options:
By car
Drive to the Bull Hill parking lot trailhead. Arrive early to make sure you can secure a parking spot. Arrive at 3200 Stearn Rd, Cold Spring, NY 10516 by 10:45AM.
By train
Take the MTA to Grand Central Terminal and then take the Metro North Railroad to Cold Spring Train Station to arrive by 10:15AM. Walk the one mile to to trailhead at Hudson Highlands State Park Parking.

Purchase your ticket through the TrainTimes App. You can purchase the ticket at any time, including the morning of the hike.

Bull Hill is one of the best hiking trails in upstate New York. You get great views of the Hudson River, and it is a taste of some of the great hiking available from NYC transit.

Clothing: Sneakers or hiking shoes should be sufficient. Wear comfortable, exercise clothing. We recommend checking the weather beforehand and bringing another layer (and maybe an extra t-shirt to change into) for afterward as it will likely be comfortable but chilly.

Food: Make sure to bring about 2 liters of water. You never know how thirsty you will get. Make sure to have breakfast, pack some snacks (fruits, cookies, etc.) and bring a light lunch (sandwich). We'll stop mid-way and eat at a scenic location.

Lunch: We will get lunch in town, there are many good options!! If people need to head back to the city, they can do so at this point. Lunch options are sandwiches, pub food, or even a beer from a speakeasy behind a barbershop!
