Michael Basch is a successful entrepreneur with a passion for innovative technology and a commitment to social justice, open-politics, and data-driven policy. He believes that politics as usual is the way of the past – and is reimagining both how campaigns are run and governing is done by bringing a start-up mentality to politics with a focus on tech-centric, data-driven operations and an empathy-centered policy platform that puts innovation, social justice, and community at the forefront.

Basch’s history with NYC began well before he was born. All four of his grandparents share a history with this great city – and it is their American Dream, realized here, that fuels his desire to give back and pay it forward. It is why he wants to dedicate himself to public service as Mayor of NYC: so that everyone in this great city can realize this same American Dream, and so that collectively we can make NYC even better than it already is.

Basch has a proven track record in the private sector, beginning at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, where he was hired as a barista at age 16, eventually growing to oversee 22 stores, netting over $20 million in revenue and employing over 400 people. While working there full time, Basch enrolled at USC, where he earned both his BA in business at age 20 and his MBA at the age of 24, then making him the youngest graduate in the history of the program. While in business school, he joined friends at BAMKO, a global promotional goods company, growing the company to a 6-country multi-national corporation with over 150 employees. Most recently, Basch served as President of Spotad, a leading global provider of mobile performance advertising technology, where he catapulted the company from zero revenue to 40+ employees and profitability within his first year.

While Basch has always been professionally driven, he has also shown a lifelong commitment to public service and policy, consistently volunteering at food banks, senior assisted living facilities, and within the Jewish community. When Hillary Clinton announced her 2016 presidential bid, Basch was one of the first volunteers in headquarters. Ultimately, he joined the campaign fulltime to oversee community organizing in Madison, Wisconsin where Basch spearheaded the delivery of an unprecedented 77.5% turnout, with 71% voting democratic. As a result, Clinton won the county by 48%, a record-breaking margin. He also participated in crafting Clinton’s policy as part of her Technology and Innovation team.
