Join the executives of Indego Africa in a discussion about their career paths; the intersection of law, business, and social enterprise; Indego Africa's attempts to disrupt the conversation about nonprofits, fair trade, and development; and much more.

  • Matt Mitro, Founder & CEO (Washington College of Law 03), left his position as a global finance attorney at Akin, Gump in late 2006 to launch Indego Africa.
  • Benjamin Stone, Senior Vice President & General Counsel (NYU Law 04), brought Indego Africa in as his pro bono client at Orrick in 2007, where he was a complex commercial litigation attorney, and then initiated an unusual corporate responsibility partnership with Orrick that allowed him to move full time to Indego Africa in 2008.
  • Conor French, Chief Financial Officer (NYU Law 06), left his position as a transactional attorney at Latham & Watkins in July 2010 to join Indego Africa full time.

The three now lead Indego Africa's talented team of law students, MBA students, other grad students, designers, teachers, and many other dedicated professionals as they scale Indego Africa's proven social enterprise business model and unleash the potential of thousands of African businesswomen.

Indego Africa is the subject of a Harvard Business School case study (scheduled for publication this fall) and the Featured Practitioner Case Study at NYU Stern's 7th Annual Satter Conference on Social Entrepreneurs on Nov. 5, 2010. Indego Africa partners with remarkable women artisans in Rwanda on a fair trade basis, and then sells its partners' contemporary accessories and home décor products at high-end retailers and on its online store, returning 100% of its profits to the women for ground-breaking long-term skills training programs.
