February 28, 2024 NYU Stern Rugby Update

NYU Stern Rugby and Friends,

Hats off to the contingent that headed up to New Haven this past weekend. A great weekend was had by all. NYU Stern Rugby displayed competitive rugby and finished the day with some nice socializing with Yale Graduate School Rugby and Columbia Business School.

Our next event is this Sunday evening (Sunday, March 3). It will be a training session on the rooftop of Pier 40 and we hope to see you all there!

***As we continue to progress through the semester, we are on the lookout for new club officers to take over for next year. This is incredibly important for the longevity of the club. Specifically, we are looking for a new President and Treasurer. If interested, please contact Collum Magee or Matt Swanson.***

We are an inclusive group of rugby fans and players who seek to build friendships and comradery through the sport of rugby. For awareness, this club is hosted and predominantly organized by MBA students from Stern. Because of this, there are certain events that are MBA or graduate student specific. In addition to playing rugby, we are also big fans of watching the sports. It has been an amazing start to the Guinness Six Nations. As the tournament continues, we will look to host a watch party. Be on the lookout for a date!

Our first match is scheduled to be against Yale Graduate School Rugby. It will also be in New Haven, Connecticut. The date will be Saturday, March 9. If interested, please join the matchday WhatsApp Group. We are hoping that Yale is going to have the necessary numbers but this is the start of their Spring Break. We hope it will work but we will be sure to keep everyone updated.

Although you are more than welcome to come and see what the club is about, if you want to be a member of the club, we do ask that you officially join the club on Campus Groups and pay your club dues. Field permits (especially in New York City), equipment, club events are not cheap, and we rely on club dues to sustain us. You can join by clicking HERE.

NYU Stern Rugby and Friends,

The weekly email is a little early this week to try to get some information out faster.

We greatly appreciate all who came out last night for training. We worked on some solid fundamentals and played some exciting touch!

Because of the weather cancelation last weekend, NYU Stern Rugby will travel up to New Haven this weekend (Saturday, February 24 2024) to scrimmage Columbia Business School and Yale Graduate Rugby. Let’s continue to spread the word and let’s continue to build numbers! It is an easy train ride on the Metro North. This will be very friendly and a way for people to shake off the rust. If you are interested in traveling to Yale on February 24, please join the matchday WhatsApp Group. More information concerning logistics will be discussed in there.

September 7, 2023 NYU Stern Rugby Update --- The eve of the RWC 2023!

NYU Stern Rugby and Friends,

Hey all! It is officially rugby season! It looks like things are really starting to come together for the Stern Rugby Club for the 2023-2024 season. We have a very promising year to come!

We are an inclusive group of rugby fans and players who seek to build friendships and comradery through the sport of rugby. For awareness, this club is hosted and predominantly organized by MBA students from Stern. Because of this, there are certain events that are MBA or graduate student specific.

Because of our love for the game and the impact it has had on us, we hope to build the rugby community throughout the whole of NYU. As we continue to grow, our hope is to build a proper NYU Club…an overarching NYU Rugby Club composed of different teams (ie. Stern/Graduate, Undergraduate –Both Women and Men!). This is not an easy endeavor but, as evidenced by past participation, success, and membership, we do truly believe it is possible! We are very interested in your ideas and feedback so please reach out to us!

The fall season will be full of watch parties for the Rugby World Cup, practices at Pier 40 and various NYC City Parks, scrimmages against local area teams including Yale, Columbia, and the Hog Fest (the annual rugby tournament in Philadelphia hosted by the Wharton Rugby Team).

To keep everyone in the loop, we will be using our WhatsApp Group. Additionally, if you are a Graduate Student, please also join this group and, if you are an Undergraduate Student, please join this group.
